FEATURED CASE STUDY

JOURNEY MANAGEMENT &  |
EMERGENCY RESPONSE

  • A global group of energy and petrochemicals companies with around 90,000 employees in more than 80 countries and territories. Shell’s aim is to meet the energy needs of society in ways that are economically, socially, and environmentally viable, now and in the future.

  • Getting road safety right has long been a priority for them, and a serious challenge. They have the largest network of service stations in their industry. Shell staff and contractors drive more than 1.1 billion kilometers each year, around 75 times around the globe every day. They are making progress through their company-wide road safety standards and their proactive driver safety programs. They’re also working in partnerships to help set industry standards and pool skills and resources.

  • Telelink has been working closely with Shell since June 2010 to support their driver safety and emergency response needs.
  • First, Shell needed to ensure driver safety when travelling. They needed a provider to support an emergency response needs for a Panic Alert process for Pinedale Wyoming team.

  • Secondly, following by the success in Wyoming, Shell needed a provider that could test a more robust system of Journey Management for drivers and teams across western Canada and US

PAIN

ABOUT SHELL

  • Shell’s Pinedale Wyoming team was using Mix Telematics In Vehicle Monitoring Systems that would send alert notifications to Telelink when a driver was in trouble. Telelink was able to work with Shell and Mix Telematics to build and deliver a system that interfaced with and immediately responded to “panic alerts” from Shell drivers. That process is defined by a contact and escalation procedure to confirm driver status and provide first responder support as required. Panic Alerts identify the location of the driver in the event our Emergency Response Team is required to escalate to first responders.

  • Telelink provided a complete journey management solution to a test group. That process includes the capture of all relevant river detail at the point of departure, providing real time road and weather information for routes, check-ins at specified intervals to confirm driver safety/status, and more. Any Shell vehicles that have IVMS systems on board are tracked in Telelink's journey management software in real time so we can see direction, speed of travel, locations, etc. We also incorporate the same functionality for Shell personnel travelling by air.

SOLUTION

RESULTS

Driven by the success of both Shell test programs, Telelink has extended it's solution to support Shell’s Journey Management needs throughout North America. This process includes customized software options that deliver efficiency to Shell’s team.
